Peter trained at Manchester Polytechnic (1969 - 1973), gaining First Hons Dip AD 3D Design and discovering
his passion for working with clay.  Following a post graduate art teacher’s course, he went on to teach Art and Design in Birmingham for 32 years until taking early retirement in 2006 in order to concentrate full time on his ceramic work.  Peter is a Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and the Midlands Potters’ Association.  He currently works from his home in Staffordshire, although he and his wife are renovating a house, studio and gallery space in Whithorn in the beautiful Machars area of Dumfries and Galloway.  They hope to relocate there sometime in 2010 and look forward to being able to welcome visitors to the studio and gallery.

Peter's early work consisted mainly of 3D built pieces, many incorporating figures influenced by the paintings of Egon Schiele, but in the 1990s he developed an interest in the tube lining technique used in late 19th and early 20th century tile making.  One of his early tile panels was included by Lark Books in “500 Tiles” published in 2008.

In the early 2000s Peter began to translate his tile designs into 3D work on thrown earthenware and porcelain pots. The majority of his pieces are now thrown but he also produces panels using commercially made bisque tiles as a base.  Still showing the influence of Schiele, as well as Japanese prints, Klimt and the Art Nouveau period, Peter's current designs are inspired by natural forms and textures, particularly those seen or imagined in dead trees and decaying material on woodland floors and seashores, and often incorporate figures developed from life drawings.
